Philips GoGear SA3285 8GB USB 2.0 MP3 Digital Music/Video FM Player & Voice Recorder w/1.8″ LCD

I have bought many mp3 players, Sandisk/Creative/Coby/Buslink, from first generation Creative nomad in 1998.
This player is slick, solid with nice features. Though coming without any manual, I can figure it out most functions by myself – music (mp3/wma), video, pictures, radio, recordings, and text files. Most of them work nicely except for 2 gripes – the video format .smv and the playlist. The SMV is a rare video format by Sigmatel designed for players with low decoding power. The SMV file size is close to uncompressed avi – so it is only useful for a few minutes personal video, not for movies.
As for the playlist, it can have only one playlist and you can only add/remove songs using the “playlist” button on the top of player.

My first media electronic was an idpod, which I really don’t care for. My children had surprised me on christmas day a few years ago and I was so excited until it stop working in the 7th month and I tried to get it serviced and they told me there was nothing they could do, but to purchased another, not on your life!!! It was until my 50th Birthday, my dad gave me a Philips Go-Gear 4gb and I loved it, even added my first video. I recommend the PGG to the generation 50ish and over. Will never want anything else but the PGG.
Thanks Philips for looking out!!

I like this little device a lot. I’ve been travelling with it for a couple of months now, and I find the sound very good (albeit through my own headphones), and the menus and controls nicely intuitive. I haven’t bothered with video or FM radio to this point, but as a straightforward, low-priced 8gb player, this seems to me a fine bargain.
